When people ask how Soul Field prints are created, they're usually expecting one of two answers: either it's fully automated (a generator spitting out gradients based on zodiac sign) or it's purely artistic intuition (me choosing colours I "feel" are right).
It's neither.
Soul Fields sit somewhere between calculation and interpretation—a hybrid system I've developed over the past year that translates astrological data into atmospheric gradients with consistency, nuance, and room for the unexpected.
Here's how it works, without giving away the entire recipe.
It Starts With Accurate Planetary Positions
Every Soul Field begins the same way a traditional chart reading does: with precise astronomical calculation.
I enter your birth date, time, and location into specialised software that calculates where the Sun, Moon, and all planets were positioned at your moment of birth. This isn't approximation—it's down to the degree and minute.
If you don't know your exact birth time, I use traditional astrological methods (like the sunrise chart technique) to work with what's available. But accuracy matters here. A birth time off by even an hour can shift your Rising sign, which significantly changes the gradient.
This takes about 5 minutes per chart.
The Big 3 Become The Foundation
Your Sun, Moon, and Rising form the structural foundation of your Soul Field.
Each of the twelve zodiac signs has been assigned a specific color palette within my system. But it's not just elemental, it's also about the quality of each sign. Cardinal, fixed, and mutable energies influence how colors transition and where intensity lives in the gradient.
Your Sun typically influences the middle section (the unifying anchor)
Your Moon shapes the lower sections (the emotional ground)
Your Rising is represented by the upward region (the sky, the outward radiance)
This is where the system becomes interpretive. I'm not randomly assigning pretty colours. I'm translating astrological principles into visual language.
Aspects Add Nuance (And Sometimes Tension)
Once the foundational gradient is established, I look at the aspects, which are the geometric relationships between planets in your chart.
> A trine (harmonious 120° angle) might soften a transition, creating a gentler blend between two zones of color.
> A square (tense 90° angle) might introduce a slight shift in tone or saturation, a visual friction that mirrors the astrological tension.
> A conjunction (planets in the same sign) can deepen or intensify a color, especially if it involves your Sun, Moon, or Rising.
Not every aspect makes it into the final gradient. Some are more visually significant than others. But the major ones shape the way colours relate to each other, the way atmosphere builds or releases.
This is the part of the process that requires the most astrological discernment. I'm deciding which aspects matter for the atmospheric visual, not just which aspects matter in a traditional reading.
It's one of the reasons two people, even twins, can have completely different Soul Fields.
The Atmospheric Phrase: Interpretation Distilled
For Archive Edition prints, I write a personalised atmospheric phrase after the gradient is designed.
This is where the system becomes fully interpretive.
I read the chart holistically, considering the Big 3, major aspects, elemental balance, and any standout planetary signatures—and I ask myself: What does this chart feel like?
Is there heaviness? (Saturn prominence, earth dominance, difficult aspects)
Is there flow? (Water emphasis, harmonious trines, mutable energy)
Is there tension? (Cardinal squares, Mars-Saturn contacts, conflicting elements)
Is there lightness? (Air dominance, Jupiter influence, easy aspects)
Then I distill that feeling into 6-8 evocative words.
Examples:
"Heavy weight fills, distance stretches" — Capricorn Sun, Aquarius Moon, Saturn square Moon
"Soft currents merge, boundaries dissolve" — Pisces Moon, Cancer Rising, Neptune aspects
"Quick sparks rise, ground holds steady" — Aries Sun, Taurus Moon, Mars trine Saturn
This takes 15-20 minutes of interpretation. It's not decoration. t's a mini astrological reading imagined into atmosphere.
Why Not Automate It Completely?
Right now, each Soul Field requires 30-50 minutes of my time: calculating, designing, verifying, writing. That's why they're priced the way they are, and why I can only take a limited number of commissions per month.
Eventually, the system will speed up the technical parts so I can focus more on refinement and interpretation. But the core logic, how astrology becomes atmosphere, will always be my personal interpretation and system.
What Makes This Different From Other Birth Chart Art?
Most "birth chart prints" fall into two categories:
1. Literal chart diagrams
Beautiful, but they're just visualising the data you'd get from any astrology app. Planets, aspects, houses—all laid out geometrically. Informative, but not interpretive.
2. Aesthetic designs "inspired by" astrology
Usually based only on your Sun sign, maybe Moon. Generic palettes assigned to zodiac symbols. Pretty, but not personalised to your actual chart.
Soul Fields are neither.
They're not chart diagrams (you won't see glyphs or degree markers). And they're not Sun-sign templates (two Aries Suns will have completely different Soul Fields if their Moons and Risings differ).
They're atmospheric translations of your full chart—calculated accurately, designed systematically, and verified by someone who's spent a decade studying astrology.
The Part I Can't Explain
There's one piece of the process I haven't mentioned, and probably won't.
It's the part where I look at the gradient I've generated and ask: Does this feel right?
Sometimes the system produces something that's astrologically accurate but visually... off. The colors don't transition the way the chart's energy actually flows. Or an aspect is showing up too strongly when it's not actually a dominant feature of the person's experience.
That's when I adjust. This is where astrology and art meet, where the system makes room for intuition, and where my 10 years of chart work informs what the algorithm can't fully capture yet.
It's the part that keeps Soul Fields from feeling mechanical, even though they're built on a structured system.
And it's the part I'll always do by hand.
